Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival (SOTS) has been producing the works of Shakespeare on the banks of the South Saskatchewan River since 1985. We attract visitors from across the province, the country, and the world. We strive to create a warm, relaxing, and inviting atmosphere for our patrons so they can truly enjoy their theatrical experience.

Call for Seasonal Marketing INtern (1 position)

Working primarily under the direction of the Artistic Director, the Marketing Intern’s role is to promote the Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival to new and existing audiences, enhance the sales of its various products and services, and ensure that the advertising plans for the festival are carried out. The Marketing Intern is proficient with digital technologies, is organized and self-motivated, is comfortable building relationships with various stakeholders, and is interested in growing the visibility and engagement of Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan with the broader community. 

This is a seasonal term contract from approximately May 15th, 2024 to September 30th, 2024. Hours will vary as our workload varies seasonally but will land between 24-32 hours weekly on average. 

About You

The key duties and responsibilities for the position will include, but are not limited to:

AUDIENCE & STAKEHOLDER RELATIONS

  • Collect and analyze data about our current audience demographics

  • Contribute to the development and implementation of plans to expand our reach, with a 

    particular focus on fulfilling our values of reconciliation, diversity, and inclusion.

  • Build relationships with a variety of stakeholders, including on site during fundraising events 

    and artistic programming

  • Support the tracking and fulfillment of sponsorship agreements

ADVERTISING & PROMOTIONS

  • Establish and maintain relationships with media contacts, across multiple platforms, throughout the province

  • Assist with the development of messaging that promotes the festival, including our various fundraisers and special events

  • Assist and carry out all advertising and publicity of festival activities through a variety of mediums

  • Update the company website to ensure event, ticket, and sponsor information is accurate and accessible

 

SALES TRACKING & DEVELOPMENT

  • Track and analyze sales data for our various products and services

  • Recommend new ideas for products, services, and events that will help increase sales, while 

    adhering to our values and strategic vision

  • Monitor the marketing, promotions, and sales budgets and help ensure targets are being 

    met.

  • Work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure that the vision for the organization and our art is appropriately communicated through all promotional materials, including signage. 

INTERNAL COMMUNICATIONS

  • Work closely with the Artistic Director to ensure that the vision for the organization and our art is appropriately communicated through all promotional materials, including signage.

  • Provide updates to staff about marketing and sales goals and progress made

  • Collaborate with artists and fellow staff to ensure that messaging is consistent, accurate, and adheres to all internal and industry-mandated standards. 

  • Manage the sale of merchandise, including strategy, procurement, distribution, and inventory management

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival (SOTS) is a vibrant part of the Saskatoon theatre community. Our festival has been a staple of summer in Saskatoon since 1985, attracting over 10,000 visitors annually. Each year, our audience joins us to enjoy dynamic interpretations of classic Shakespeare plays, as well as other works by local and Canadian artists all on the backdrop of the beautiful South Saskatchewan River and our brand-new festival site on the Meewasin Trail.

Qualifications
    • Comfortable working with digital technologies, including Microsoft 365 applications and basic
      graphic design software

    • Familiarity with the Saskatchewan arts sector and media platforms would be a significant asset

    • Ability to track and analyze sales data and design plans for expanding audience engagement

    • Strong attention to detail in verbal and written communication

    • Strong organization skills and the ability to coordinate activities and communications with a

      variety of stakeholders

    • Creative and innovative thinking

    • Dependable and independently motivated

    • Post-secondary training in a related field such as journalism, marketing, communications, or

      public relations considered an asset

Call for Take the stage! Program Facillitators - (4 Positions)

Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan is seeking enthusiastic individuals with advanced theatre training and knowledge to facilitate its debut season of Take the Stage! Youth Summer Camps!  

 

Brief Description of Camp Divisions: 

Senior Camp

Shakespeare on The Saskatchewan is excited to be offering Saskatoon’s up-and-coming generation of theatre artists with an opportunity to Take the Stage this summer through our newly developed summer camp programming! This two-week long, half-day program offers young artists aged 13-17 the opportunity to discover the work of William Shakespeare in a fun, creative, and engaging way while expanding their growing skills and talents in the world of theatre. Campers will experience what it’s like to workshop and perform a shortened version of Shakespeare’s Hamlet from start to finish, culminating in a presentation of their work on the SOTS Main Stage! Senior camp will run through afternoons compiled of theatre-based workshops and skill development, alongside all the elements that make Theatre a fun and exciting environment to explore. We will be programming this camp to be facilitated to be for those with higher level of theatre experience/interest, however the activities will be adaptable for varying skill intensity.  

Who: Young Artists aged 13-17 (up to 1 year post high-school grad) 

When: Senior Camp will run from 1:00-4:30pm Monday, July 15th to Friday July 26th, 2024 (excluding weekends) 

Where: Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival Site

 

Junior Camp  

SOTS invites campers aged 8 to 13 to Take the Stage! in morning adventures where they’ll be introduced to the world of Shakespearian plays through a shortened version of one of William Shakespeare’s most celebrated comedies A Midsummer Night’s Dream. This creation will be workshopped and brought to life on our Main Stage by the campers themselves, through a series of foundational and assigned scenes, to groups of 3-4 campers and directed by camp facilitators. In this intro to the world of Shakespeare and theatre, programming will include games, warm-ups, some script work, and rehearsals over a two-week period (not including weekends). For this age division, all activities and skill building are devised for those who have limited experience with Theatre and Shakespeare but will be adaptable to varying skill levels as campers explore, learn, and grow.  

Who: Campers aged 8 to 13!

When: Junior Camp will run from 9am to 12:30pm Monday, July 15th to Friday, July 26th , 2024 (excluding weekends) 

Where: Shakespeare on the Saskatchewan Festival Site. 

 

Employment Term:  

July 15th – 26th, 2024 (with up to 2 additional training/planning days held before the start of camp).  

Hours:  

Facilitators for Junior Programming – Approximately 8:45am to 12:45pm (4hrs) Monday to Friday.  

Facilitators for Senior Programming – Approximately 12:45pm to 4:45pm (4hrs) Monday to Friday.  

*Please note this period covers a two-week program (excluding weekends) and will average to an estimated total of 45 hours of contracted work.  

Compensation: $16.00/hour 

Qualifications: 

  • Minimum Grade 12 Education (Preference given to those with high-level theatre training and experience). 
  • Experience working with Youth ages 8-17. 
  • Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills. 
  • Ability to work collaboratively with others. 
  • Ability to manage behaviour and enforce camp rules and policies. 
  • Acceptable current Criminal Record Check (CRC) and Vulnerable Sector Search (VSS) upon offer of employment.  
  • Holding a valid First Aid + CPR certification will be seen as an asset (but not mandatory) 

Duties/Responsibilities:

  • Ensure a safe, fun, and engaging experience for all campers. 
  • Actively and enthusiastically lead and participate in all aspects of camp programming both confidently and independently.  
  • Create and maintain an environment in which campers experience positive social, and educational growth while developing their skills and understanding of Shakespearean Theatre.  
  • Properly maintain all camp equipment provided by SOTS.  
  • Manage behaviour and enforce camp rules and policies. 
  • Be responsible for campers’ safety and well being while ensuring all feel welcomed, supported, and cared for at all times.  
  • Know and be ready to implement camp emergency procedures at any time.  
  • Maintain communication to the Camp Coordinator regarding various aspects of Camp, including any necessary program adjustments, camper/guardian needs, supply requests, etc.  
  • Provide end of season feedback to the Camp Coordinator regarding all aspects of camp, including program development, camper needs and engagement, and staff experience, etc. 
 

Positions Available:  

SOTS is seeking 4 Program facilitators to work in partnerships of 2 to supervise and facilitate Junior and Senior camp programming. These four roles will be divided and assigned based on need, interest, and shift availability.  

*Each Camp division will have 2 facilitators, covering programming for up to 12 campers each.
