Local Artist
Ken MacKenzie (he/him) is a freelance designer and educator with over 20 years of experience working across theatre and performance. His award-winning set, lighting, costume, and video designs have been presented on stages throughout Canada, the United States, and Europe. He has been a resident artist with Soulpepper Theatre Company and the Young Centre for the Performing Arts.
Ken served as President of the Associated Designers of Canada from 2017 to 2024 and is a founding president of IATSE Local ADC659. In recent years, his focus has expanded to artist advocacy, supporting designers in achieving fair representation and recognition from engagers and funding bodies.
Ken also serves as Vice President of the Saskatchewan Association of Theatre Professionals (SATP).
Since fall 2021, Ken has been on faculty at the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, where he is an Assistant Professor in the School for the Arts and a U of S Sustainability Fellow. His teaching focuses on design as an integrated practice, emphasizing collaboration, sustainability, and interdisciplinary approaches to performance creation.
